Pirro given all clear
Sportscar star Emanuele Pirro has been given the all clear after being taken to hospital for precautionary checks following a heavy impact with the tyre wall in Sunday's ALMS race at Mosport
The Audi ace was carving his way through traffic when he went off line as he came up behind a GT class Porsche. The Italian lost control and was briefly knocked unconscious as the R8 slammed into the barrier with considerable force.
"The accident happened just before my second scheduled pitstop," said Pirro who was dicing for the lead with the second works Audi at the time of the shunt. "I wanted to lose as little time as possible on my way to the pits. I came on the dirty line and crashed into the tyre wall. It was a heavy impact, but I am okay."
Pirro was transported to the local hospital for examination, but scans showed the former Benetton F1 driver was perfectly okay and he'll return to the cockpit in time for the penultimate round of the series at Laguna Seca in just over a month's time.
