Stephane Ortelli dominated the Monaco round of the Porsche Supercup, leading from start to finish and setting a new lap record on the way

"It was a fantastic race!" he said afterwards. "I pushed hard over the whole distance. I hope this result is a good omen for the Le Mans 24 Hour race in two weeks."

Ortelli was part of Porsche's winning team at Le Mans in 1998, and will share a Joest Audi with Allan McNish and Laurent Aiello in this year's race.

Bernd Maylander was second, fending off heavy pressure from Oliver Mathai as he struggled with a stubborn gearbox.

Series leader Patrick Huisman maintained his advantage despite only finishing sixth, although fourth-placed Sascha Maassen is now only four points adrift.

Jaguar Formula One test driver Luciano Burti took part in order to learn the Monaco track. He finished 14th after a spectacular battle with Marc Duez and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

"This was one of the most fantastic races of my life," he said. " I know the track inside out now."
