Only one Maserati in contention at Spa
The fight for this year's Spa 24 Hours remains tight during the 11th hour, but there is now only one Vitaphone Maserati in contention
After Alexandre Sarnes Negrau crashed the #1 Maserati out of second at the start of hour nine, the Chevrolet Corvettes of Selleslagh Racing and Pekaracing built a one-lap cushion over the other two MC12s.
Just before the nine-hour mark, the #33 Maserati, running fourth, clashed with the #124 Muhlner Motorsport GT3 Porsche 911. Alessandro Pier Guidi toured back to the pits and lost eight laps while the team repaired the car, dropping it to 10th.
That would have been lower had it not been for a safety car period, thrown to allow barrier repairs at Fagnes following Negrau's off.
Leaders Oliver Gavin (Selleslagh) and Mike Hezemans (Peka) had just made their stops when the safety car came out, but Miguel Ramos had not yet pitted in the #2 Maserati. He was able to come in under caution, allowing Pedro Lamy get back on the lead lap when he returned to the circuit.
The fight for victory now appears to be between these three cars, with Bert Longin (Selleslagh), Hezemans and Lamy circulating in close company while setting some of the fastest laps of the race. The fourth-placed works Nissan and G2 pace-setting Audi R8 LMS are currently squabbling over fourth, over seven laps behind.
The #51 AF Corsa leads GT2. Its advantage over its sister #50 car had shrunk to around 25 seconds thanks to the 55-minute safety car period, but Matias Russo is currently edging away from Toni Vilander.
The leading Porsche in third, the number 97 Brixia Racing machine, is now two laps behind the Ferraris.
The #121 Ford GT continues to dominate GT3 in 12th overall.
