No surprises in qualifying

Audi has taken its expected pole at the Le Mans 1000km on the Bugatti Circuit at La Sarthe. Tom Kristensen, driving the only R8 in the field lapped, 0.4 seconds quicker than Jan Lammers' Racing for Holland Dome-Judd

Five-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Kristensen was quickest in the first of today's sessions, which was enough to keep the team in front since nobody threatened in the second.

"Qualifying on pole for an endurance race means only prestige," said Kristensen. "But Seiji Ara [Kristensen's co-driver] and I are very happy with the car for the race. Of course we are favourites, but there are so many cars on this narrow track that it will be a hard race."

The two Veloqx Ferrari Maranellos lead the way on the GTS grid, while Cirtek's 360 Modena starts first in the GT class.

The race gets underway at 11am British time tomorrow (Sunday).

Seiji Ara/Tom Kristensen (Audi) 1m27.775s
