Mowlem lands Ferrari drive for Le Mans

The Risi Competizione/ACEMCO team has snapped up Johnny Mowlem to drive one of its two GT-class Ferrari 360 Modenas in the Le Mans 24 Hours race after the British sportscar driver stepped down from the Orbit Porsche squad to make way for Porsche star Marc Lieb

Mowlem, who finished second in the Risi Ferrari at Daytona earlier this year, stepped aside for Porsche factory favourite Lieb when the German's original team, Freisinger, failed to get an entry for the race. Mowlem will drive alongside American Butch Leitzinger who also lost his original drive in a Dyson Lola MG when the team withdrew its entry.

"I am very fortunate to land such a good Le Mans drive at this late stage," said Mowlem. "The situation with Orbit was one that had not occurred to any of us, but it was the right thing to do. It was obviously not ideal for me at this late stage, but I know Orbit will take care of me and I know that I will drive for the team again in the future.

"As for Risi, I know how competitive the team is and it's a great chance to drive a Ferrari at Le Mans. With the strong driver line-up and the experience we have between us, and because of the pedigree of the team, I reckon we will go well."

Mowlem will partner with Leitzinger, who raced for Bentley in the 2001and 2002, and experienced GT driver Shane Lewis in the car which is entered under the ACEMCO Ferrari banner.
