The Dutchman took the pole aboard his Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 R-EX with a 1m36.908s lap, which put him just over a tenth up on nearest rival Markus Winkelhock in the Phoenix Audi.

Winkelhock's time of 1m37.048s in his Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS ultra edged out the Rinaldi Ferrari 458 Italia driven by Norbert Siedler by a similar margin.

Catsburg, who shares his Reiter car with Albert von Thurn und Taxis, said: "The car is really good on this track and I was here a few weeks ago [driving for Lada in the World Touring Car Championship]."

Kevin Estre took fourth place for the Attempto McLaren team, but ended the session with his 650S GT3 beached in the gravel.

Laurens Vanthoor was fifth fastest in the championship-leading WRT Audi he shares with Robin Frijns on a 1m37.485s.

That put him less than a tenth up on team-mate Christopher Mies.

Jules Szymkowiak took seventh place aboard the best of the HTP Motorsport Bentley Continental GT3s, which is the only entry in the Silver Cup class this weekend.

Marko Asmer took Pro-Am class qualifying honours in the fastest of the two GT Russian Team Mercedes-Benz SLS AMGs.
