Monza: Cappellari/Gollin grab victory for Ferrari
Luca Cappellari and Fabrizio Gollin scored their first overall FIA GT Championship win of the season at Monza in their BMS Scuderia Italia Ferrari 550
Gollin took the lead into the first corner and stayed ahead for all his stint. In the top three for the much of the rest of the race, Gollin retook the lead when the Care Racing Ferrari of Lilian Bryner and Enzo Calderari had to stop for a splash and dash in the closing stages.
"It was a great race and I have to thank our engineer Marco Galuppi who made a wonderful strategy, we finished with only six litres in the tank but we didn't have to make a splash and dash," said Cappellari. "So we won the fight with Enzo and Lilian. We have got to the finish line in nine races out of 10, and my team-mate Fabrizio was very fast."
The Lister Storm of Jamie Campbell-Walter and Nathan Kinch finished third, while champions Matteo Bobbi and Thomas Biagi were delayed when they clashed with an N-GT Porsche. They recovered to finish sixth.
Andrea Bertolini and Fabrizio De Simone scored their fourth N-GT win of the season, and their third in a row, in their JMB Racing Ferrari 360 Modena. Freisinger Motorsport did more than enough to retain their N-GT title, however, finishing second to put themselves out of reach of Team Maranello Concessionaires, with Stéphane Ortelli and Marc Lieb claiming the drivers' championship.
