Lamy gets Portimao Aston outing

Pedro Lamy is returning to the Aston Martin fold at Portimao this weekend for a one-off race with the Young Driver team in the GT1 World Championship

The Peugeot LMP1 driver and former Le Mans Series and FIA GT2 champion is deputising for Christoffer Nygaard alongside Stefan Mucke, as family commitments have forced Nygaard to skip the race.

Lamy was part of the factory Aston GT1 line-up in the American Le Mans Series and at Le Mans in the mid-2000s. He currently races for Peugeot's LMP1 programme and also won this year's Nurburgring 24 Hours with BMW.

"Pedro Lamy is incredibly experienced in all kinds of sportscars, especially in the Aston Martin DB9," said team boss Hardy Fischer. "Being Portuguese, he knows the track well so we are hopeful that he will do a good job for us this weekend.

"Christoffer asked us to skip the next round and of course we accepted his request. We are very sorry that he can't be with us this weekend and we really hope he will be back for the next round."

Young Driver dominated the last event at the Nurburgring with its #7 Aston and lead drivers Tomas Enge and Darren Turner.
