Lamborghini reveals new Murciélago

Italian sportscar manufacturer Lamborghini has unveiled its new FIA GT challenger, the Murciélago R-GT, at the Frankfurt Motorshow

The car has been developed jointly with race engineering company Reiter Engineering and parent company Audi's sports division Audi Sport. Built to the specification of FIA and ACO regulations, the R-GT will be equipped with a 6-litre V12 engine.

Reiter Engineering will field a car in the FIA GT rounds at Estoril on October 5 and at Monza on October 19. Drivers Peter Kox and Oliver Gavin will handle the initial test and race programmes for the Italian marque.

The Murciélago R-GT will be eligible for entry in national and international GT race events, including the FIA GT Championship and the American Le Mans Series. All entries will be supported by the Lamborghini Customer Sports Programme, which will offer trackside assistance.

Werner Mischke, chairman and president of Automobili Lamborghini, said: "There is already substantial demand for the Murciélago R-GT, from motorsport teams and drivers alike: we anticipate this new race car becoming one of the special attractions in GT motorsport."
