Dijon replaces Rockingham FIA date

The FIA Sportscar Championship has clinched a deal to run its next round at the Dijon Prenois circuit in France following the cancellation of its Rockingham race

The event at the British venue was cancelled recently because of noise restrictions, but series boss John Mangoletsi reckons that Dijon is the ideal venue to start the second half of the season.

"We are pleased to confirm that the next round of the FIA Sportscar Championship will take place at the Dijon Prenois circuit on the 16/17/18 August 2002," he said.

"It has been a little difficult organising the officials and local prefecture requirements during this holiday period with such short notice but this has now been successfully achieved."

Dijon has a great sportscar heritage after running a 1000km event during the 1970s, the first of which was won by current FIA Sportscar entrant Henri Pescarolo in a Matra MS670 back in 1973.

The circuit also hosted the French Grand Prix from 1974-84 and has been substantially upgraded in recent years in effort to attract more topline international events.
