Campbell-Walter snatches first FIA GT pole

Jamie Campbell-Walter took his first international pole on home ground,

when he claimed first grid spot for the #14 Lister Storm, in qualifying forSunday's fourth round of the FIA GT Championship.

"Normally Julian Bailey does the qualifying," Jamie explained. "But I
missed the weighbridge after doing my three qualifying laps, so in theory I
hadn't qualified for the race. So at the end of the session I went out to
do my three laps , did four - and I went one tenth quicker than Julian.
I'm very happy to be on pole - we look to be in a good position for a home
win, but there's a long way to go yet."

The Lister Storm has totally dominated proceedings at Silverstone this
weekend, appearing effortlessly quicker than their nearest opposition, the
Paul Belmondo Racing Vipers. Boris Derichebourg set the second fastest lap
time, nearly a second and a half slower than Campbell-Walter round the
3.194 Grand Prix circuit. "We have a stronger package now that I am
driving with Vincent Vosse," the young Frenchman explained. "But we are
still quite far from the Listers." A gearbox problem prevented them setting
many laps in the second session, which was slower from almost all of the
cars.

The second Lister Storm, driven this weekend by Philippe Favre and Nicolas
Springer, will start from third on the grid. "I'm very pleased to be in
Britain again, with a competitive car," Favre said after setting a time of
1:50.238. "The last time I was here was in 1990 in F3000, and nothing is
the same, so I had to learn it all again ! I'm surprised and please to be
in this position."

Monza winner Mike Hezemans, in the Carsport Holland Chrysler Viper, was
caught up in traffic, and unable to improve on fourth place for Sunday's
race. Former Grand Prix driver Jean-Pierre Jarier had a spectacular
accident at Stowe, when his front right brake disc exploded, spinning the
MMI Viper off the track, without hitting anything. "The first spin was at
270 km/h - it was better than anything at Disneyland," Jarier exclaimed.

Larbre Competition continued to dominate the N-GT class, with 1993 Le Mans
winner Christophe Bouchut setting his third pole of the season, despite
carrying the maximum 40kgs of penalty weight. "The time is very good,
we've got a good balance for the race, and the track is one of my very
favourite ones - I'm very happy," the Frenchman said.

Luca Riccitelli was second, in the RWS Porsche 996 GT3-R, while Michel
Neugarten claimed third best time in the category for the G-Force Porsche
he shares with Nigel Smith.
