Bobbi's Grand-Am switch

Former FIA GT champion Matteo Bobbi will team up alongside 2004 title-holder Fabrizio Gollin after the pair announced their switch to the US-based Grand-Am series

The Italian friends and rivals, who both drove for the all-conquering BMS Scuderia Italia squad in GTs for the last two years, have signed to the Toyota-supported Doran-Lexus team.

Bobbi was expected to begin testing for his new team on Saturday at the the Homestead-Miami Speedway, where he will get his first taste of the DORAN JE4 Grand-Am prototype.

"Those who know me well know that since I was a boy, my dream has always been to race in the States," said Bobbi. "I am fully aware of the excellent reputation of Kevin Doran's team, therefore, when I had to choose from the offers made to me, the decision I took seemed almost obvious.

"Racing in a team with Fabrizio [Gollin] is also a dream come true. We have been friends for years and we have always admired and respected each other as rivals. Racing together will give us new stimulus and motivation.

"I'll be taking on this American adventure with great determination, as I know that we can be competitive right from the start. I'll have to learn a lot and very quickly, but that doesn't worry me."
