BMW reveals Nurburgring 24 Hours squad

BMW has announced a top class driver line-up for its attack on this year's Nurburgring 24 Hours on May 31/June 1

The German manufacturer's European Touring Car Championship drivers Jorg Muller and Dirk Muller (no relation) will be joined by female racer Claudia Hurtgen in its first entry. Its second M3 GTR will be driven by sportscar legend Hans-Joachim Stuck, American Boris Said and Danish veteran John Nielsen.

"The criteria applied for choosing the team have been clear: experience of the Nuerburgring-Nordschleife, the world's most demanding circuit, as well as experience in driving GT sports cars and 24-hour races," said BMW's motorsport director Mario Theissen.

Team Schnitzer will run the 400bhp cars in the event, where it will go head-to-head with a works Opel squad using DTM-style machinery. The M3 GTR made its debut in 2001 in the American Le Mans Series and won the GT class of the championship, but the car was withdrawn from competition by the marque in 2002 when series organisers levied heavy penalties against it.
