Van der Zande joins Mucke for 2010

Renger van der Zande has signed to race in GP3 for Mucke Motorsport this season

The 24-year-old, who won races in British Formula 3 and the F3 Euro Series last year, will join the team for the first time at this week's opening pre-season test at Paul Ricard.

"I had a few options in other series, but this opportunity was the best for me," van der Zande told AUTOSPORT. "The team has a link to Mercedes, and so do I, so this was a good option.

"I'm pleased we were able to get a deal put together quickly so we can get started with working on the season."

The Dutchman feels he will be fighting for the title this season, but he added that he will not be concerned about laying down a marker in testing.

"I think I have a good chance to go for the championship, which will be good because we're in front of the Formula 1 teams," he said.

"But we don't need to be setting the fastest times until we get to the first race. This is a new series, so the first thing to focus on is the reliability. After that we can work on set-up."
