Formula 3 race winner Emil Bernstorff will switch to the GP3 Series for this season with Carlin.
The 20-year-old Anglo-Dane makes the step up from the German F3 Cup, in which he finished third last season with six victories.
He raced in the F3 European Championship in 2012, and returned to the category's top level for a one-off in last year's Masters of F3 at Zandvoort, where he finished on the podium.
Bernstorff joins Carlin after driving with the team on two of the three days of post-season GP3 testing in Abu Dhabi last November.
"Carlin are a team I've admired for many years and it's great to be racing with them this season," he said.
"I'm now looking forward to the official testing, which starts at the end of March. Until then, we'll be working hard to make sure we're well prepared for the first race."
Bernstorff joins new Red Bull junior and Macau Grand Prix winner Alex Lynn in Carlin's GP3 line-up.
Team boss Trevor Carlin said: "We're excited to be working with Emil this season - he's a talented young driver. Alongside Alex, we have a strong team in the making and we will be looking to challenge for the championship.
"Emil has already been to the factory and made a great impression on everyone here. We look forward to the rest of the season competing together."
