The shock departure of the all-conquering Volkswagen squad left reigning world champion Sebastien Ogier searching for a seat on the eve of the new season. The French ace linked up with privateer outfit M-Sport, but could he remain on top against the might of Hyundai, and returning manufacturers Citroen and Toyota?

Yes, he could. Ogier, M-Sport and the Ford Fiesta proved to be the perfect combination - a fifth world title was his, as M-Sport pulled off a stunning double title: its first drivers' crown to go with the manufacturers' championship, clinched on a glorious day on home territory. Not bad for a team that started 2017 with a five-year win drought!

But it was far from straightforward.

Ogier climbed atop the podium just twice, as a plethora of drivers and teams battled it out in a fiercely-contested season on the array of surfaces - from the ice of Monaco, snow of Sweden, never-ending tarmac of Corsica and hot, dry gravel of Mexico - that makes the World Rally Championship a unique sporting test of speed, endurance and intelligence.

Hyundai's Thierry Neuville doubled Ogier's win tally - and had more stage victories than anyone - but had to settle for the runner-up spot, his chances compromised by errors, as victories elsewhere were shared between season veterans Jari-Matti Latvala and Kris Meeke, and fired-up young guns Ott Tanak, Elfyn Evans and Esapekka Lappi, with Toyota returning to the winner's enclosure after a prolonged absence.

The different drivers spraying the victor's champagne encapsulated the thrillingly unpredictable nature of the campaign, prompting the primary protagonists to view 2017 as a golden era for rallying.

The action-packed season review features extensive highlights and reaction from every crucial stage across the 13 rounds, with an array of available cameras providing sensational footage, including mesmerising on-board angles and stunning aerial shots, complemented by bonus material, as the latest generation of drivers and cars vie for supremacy at the head of the championship.
