Wilson Rues Driving Error
Justin Wilson has admitted his spin under a full-course caution in Sunday's Edmonton Champ Car race was a straightforward driving error
"It was a simple driving mistake on my part," said a chastened Wilson, who was poised for at least a second place finish to complement his Toronto victory, but instead had to make do with fourth.
"It's so disappointing... I can't believe it.
"I'm not sure exactly how it happened. I gave a flip of the throttle to warm up the tyres, but the car started turning and kept going. Then, obviously no one wanted to let me back in.
"The CDW car was set for a second place, maybe a win, but definitely a RuSPORT 1-2. I'm so sorry for the team because the car has just been fantastic all weekend and we had some really great racing with Paul [Tracy] to come out ahead.
"The only positive, really, is that the Edmonton fans got a great race and we came away with some valuable points."
Wilson did his best to atone for his faux pas with a charging drive in the closing laps, lapping much quicker than anyone else as he clawed his way back up the lap chart. He had caught third-placed Paul Tracy by the final lap but ran out of time to attempt a passing move.
The Brit retains third place in the Championship standings but now trails leader Sebastien Bourdais by 30 points.
