The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship reached its competitive peak in 2011. Home talents Fredrik Ekblom, Richard Goransson and Johan Kristoffersson raced alongside legends Jan 'Flash' Nilsson and Rickard Rydell; Colin Turkington raced full-time, while appearances from stars such as James Thompson, Gabriele Tarquini and Fabrizio Giovanardi gave the series something of a cult following.

It had just morphed from the Swedish Touring Car Championship, after merging for 2011 with its Danish equivalent to gain a Scandinavian title.
