Weekend review and results round-up
The motorsport weekend saw both dominant championship leaders stretching their advantages and history being made in some surprisingly intriguing races
The biggest shock was definitely in the Le Mans Series in Hungary, where problems for every single LMP1 car meant an unprecedented all-LMP2 top six and a brilliant win for the Strakka HPD - which Danny Watts had already stuck on pole even against healthy LMP1 opposition.
The American Le Mans Series also saw a first time outright winner in Drayson Racing, and had the bonus of a spine-tingling finish as Jonny Cocker jumped from fourth to first in an epic final few minutes.
History was made in NASCAR at Bristol, as Kyle Busch became the first man to win Truck, Nationwide and Sprint Cup races all in the same weekend at the same venue.
But there were curious goings on back in British Touring Cars at Silverstone, amid suggestions of team orders being employed as Tom Chilton twice got past his Arena Ford team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole to win, before the latter claimed race three.
Things were more predictable in the World Rally Championship and IndyCar. Sebastien Loeb remains unbeaten in Rally Germany, which he has won ever since it joined the calendar in 2002, while Will Power can take a handy points cushion into the oval events having won at Sears Point, giving him some happier memories from the circuit where he suffered serious back injuries last summer.
