Weekend review and results round-up

The Misano MotoGP weekend was totally overshadowed by the death of Shoya Tomizawa in the Moto2 race. The 19-year-old Japanese rider suffered fatal injuries when he fell into the path of two other bikes and was struck at high speed

His death left the paddock numb, with MotoGP winner Dani Pedrosa admitting he took no joy from his victory.

While MotoGP was dominated by tragedy, the car racing world saw several championship fights either close up or move closer to resolution - particularly in Formula 2, where a double win for Dean Stoneman and a tough weekend for Jolyon Palmer at Oschersleben gave the former the advantage heading into the final event.

Paul di Resta kept leader Bruno Spengler in sight by taking his first DTM win of the season with a commanding run on home ground at Brands Hatch, where Formula 3 Euro Series points leader Edoardo Mortara was taken out of race two by team-mate Laurens Vanthoor, but still holds a comfortable advantage in the standings.

Will Power had another oval disaster in the IndyCar race at Kentucky - despite leading much of the distance. While his Penske team-mate Helio Castroneves' fuel gamble took him to victory ahead of the impressive Panther duo, it was fifth-placed Dario Franchitti who trimmed Power's points lead to just 17.

Superleague Formula title rivals Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan tripped over each other at Adria and remain inseparable in the points - with RSC Anderlecht creeping up on them after two wins for Davide Rigon this weekend.

Andy Priaulx kept the pressure on Yvan Muller in the World Touring Car Championship, as the three-time champion took his sixth win of 2010 amid collisions and penalties at Oschersleben. In the British series, Jason Plato's race three win at Knockhill kept him 20 points clear in the standings, but Matt Neal, Tom Onslow-Cole and Gordon Shedden remain in the hunt - especially after the Honda duo both took wins in Scotland as well.
