Weekend review and results round-up
With MotoGP's Motegi event postponed due to the after-effects of the ash crisis, Formula 1 taking a break before the European season, and the World Rally Championship pausing before the trek to New Zealand, this was an unusually quiet late spring weekend for international motor racing
But it did see the start of the 2010 DTM at Hockenheim, where Gary Paffett got Mercedes' title campaign off to an ideal start by leading a top four sweep.
Tin-top action dominated the weekend line-up. A typically eventful Talladega NASCAR Sprint Cup race saw Kevin Harvick snatch victory from under the Earnhardt Ganassi team's nose, while in the British Touring Car Championship at Rockingham, Matt Neal grabbed a pair of victories but saw race two winner Jason Plato assume the points lead.
The junior single-seater series were not entirely dormant: Luca Filippi and Vladimir Arabadzhiev shared the honours as Auto GP's inaugural season got underway at Brno, and Marco Wittmann and Roberto Merhi celebrated their first Formula 3 Euro Series wins at Hockenheim.
