Weekend review and results round-up

As the motorsport season draws to a close, there is still plenty to fight for in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series - especially after runaway points leader Jimmie Johnson was taken out in an early accident at Texas this weekend

Kurt Busch went on to win the race, but the main beneficiary was Johnson's team-mate Mark Martin, who now has a realistic championship chance again going into the last two rounds.

MotoGP's Valencia finale saw a dominant home win for Dani Pedrosa, ahead of the Yamahas, although the big story was Casey Stoner's pre-race crash. The 250cc era ended with a title for Hiroshi Aoyama, whose pre-race lead was sufficient for his trip through the gravel not to matter. It also helped that his rival Marco Simoncelli fell while leading into the final laps.

Adrian Valles made Liverpool the champion of Superleague Formula's second season, despite rival Craig Dolby's best efforts for Spurs in the Jarama decider. In Australia, Jamie Whincup reclaimed the V8 Supercar championship lead with a pair of wins at Phillip Island.
