Vasiliauskas claims pole at Brands

Kazim Vasiliauskas became the fifth different pole-sitter of the Formula 2 season, claiming the top spot in a truncated session at Brands Hatch this afternoon

The Lithuanian, who was one of the pre-season favourites, has performed below expectations so far with two third places his best results.

But he took full advantage today when a red flag with eight minutes remaining robbed pace-setter Dean Stoneman of his chance to set a time using his three power boosts.

Vasiliauskas still had his left and hooked up a lap late on to squeeze a tenth clear of Philipp Eng and Tom Gladdis.

Sergei Afanasiev and Jolyon Palmer also left their best efforts until the end and finished fourth and fifth, ahead of Will Bratt.

Stoneman was bumped down to seventh in the end, alongside Nicola de Marco and ahead of Armaan Ebrahim and Mihai Marinescu.

Jack Clarke, who finished second in today's earlier race, could only manage 14th.

Parthiva Sureshwaren caused the red flag towards the end when he crashed at Westfield, while Mihai Marinescu caused an earlier stoppage when he spun off, also at Westfield.
