Valles returns to Superleague
Last year's Superleague Formula champion Adrian Valles is to return to the series to drive the Sporting Lisbon car for the remainder of the season
Valles took the 2009 title with Liverpool, but has not raced so far this year after his hopes of getting a Formula 1 seat with US F1 fell through.
"I'm very excited to be taking part in Superleague Formula again," said Valles, who also recently tested a Formula 2 car.
"After winning the 2009 championship with Liverpool I had an opportunity to go into F1, but that dream didn't become reality. Despite this disappointment, I continued training and now I can say that I'm in the same physical condition as last year."
The Sporting car was run by new team Drivex at Portimao last weekend, but has now switched to the De Villota Motorsport team for the remainder of the season. Valles is the fourth driver to wear Sporting colours this year, following on from Borja Garcia, Andy Soucek and Maximo Cortes.
Superleague competition director Robin Webb said Valles' return was a major boost for the series ahead of its forthcoming dates in China.
""We're delighted to welcome Adrian Valles back to Superleague Formula for our first-ever trip to China in what looks set to be one of the strongest grids in our three-year history," said Webb.
"During his two years with us, Adrian showed what a talented and professional driver he is and I'm sure he's looking forward to mixing it at the front of the field with the title contenders in Ordos."
