United SportsCar series unveils merged ALMS/Grand-Am 2014 calendar

Next year's inaugural United SportsCar Championship will incorporate 12 venues chosen from this year's American Le Mans Series and Grand-Am schedules

Each of the four classes in the USCC will race 11 times over the 12-event calendar, which starts with the Daytona 24 Hours in January and climaxes with Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in October.

The Prototype class, which will be made up of uprated Daytona Prototyes, LMP2 cars and DeltaWings, will not be part of the August event at Virginia International Raceway.

The GT Daytona and LMPC one-make prototype cars will not take part in the Long Beach event in August and the LM GT class will not race in Detroit in May.

Ed Bennett, boss of Grand-Am and USCC sanctioning body IMSA, said: "We have created a premium schedule for sportscar fans, taking our new championship to some of the best road-racing facilities in North America.

"Our line-up also underscores the cooperative spirit of the merger between Grand-Am and the ALMS. The 'best of both worlds' approach is certainly evident when you look at the 2014 schedule."

Bennett said that only venues from the two series had been considered for the 2014 calendar.

An announcement on which events will form the North American Endurance Championship, a series within a series that has been part of the Grand-Am schedule since 2011, is expected at a later date.
