UK motorsport workforce development plan

A national plan for UK motorsport industry workforce development is being undertaken by the Motorsport Industry Association, with support from four British regional development agencies. The plan will identify the main factors influencing the labour, skills and training requirements of motorsport companies over the next five to 10 years. An 'Industry Task Group' is currently being established for the purpose

The task group, which already includes delegates from Cosworth Racing, Prodrive and Xtrac, will ultimately reflect a wide range of stakeholder perspectives, from companies and representative bodies, to training providers and educational institutions. It will consider current and future workforce development needs and issues, the specific and generic skills and attributes required in the different industry sub-sectors, and how these skills can be developed. It will also look at the role of educators, the industry and the community in attracting, developing and retaining appropriate people for the sector. Ultimately all skills areas from engineering and marketing, to finance and personal development, will be addressed.

The project is being funded by the four RDAs that cover the 'Motorsport Valley' region: East Midlands Development Agency, Advantage West Midlands, South East England Development Agency, and East of England Development Agency.
