Tragedy strikes HVM
Two crew members of the HVM (formerly Herdez Competition) Champ Car team, Kenny Ferris and Vitor Pinto, lost their lives last Wednesday night (December 22) in a car accident in Arkansas

They were bringing a show car back from the Mexican International Auto Show when their vehicle was hit head-on by a semi truck during a snowstorm. Pinto died instantly and Ferris later succumbed at a nearby hospital.
It was the second time tragedy has visited the team in recent years. Its original founder, Tony Bettenhausen, his wife Shirley, co-owner Russ Roberts and close friend Larry Rangel perished in a light plane crash on Valentine's Day in 2000.
HVM issued the following statement: "The entire HVM team wants to extend its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Kenny Ferris and Vitor Pinto, whose lives ended tragically in an auto accident in Arkansas on Wednesday, December 22, 2004. Both were admired and important members of the HVM team and will be deeply missed both for their inspiring personalities and professional contributions."
