Tracy works hard for emotional third
It was an emotional Paul Tracy that climbed from his car at the end of Sunday's race. Third place, from 12th on the grid, and in his home town sent the locals wild. Having led the championship in the early stages, four non-finishes have blighted the Team Green's campaign. Third place was a perfect response
And Paul was quick to appreciate it: "My name's Paul, and I'm Canadian..." he said, sending the race fans wild and adding to the nations's ad campaign.
"We had a tough race starting so far back. Then I hit the wall on the second restart, It was on the inside of turn 2, and the car jumped in the air a bit, and I damaged the suspension.
"I must thank Team Green for the car, but more than anyone I want to thank Ric Moore and the family of Greg. I love to race here as a Canadian but wearing the helmet colours of my friend Greg gave me extra motivation."
The helmet that Paul wore was in the colours of fellow Canadian Greg Moore, who died last year at Fontana. The helmet was auctioned off for CDN$45,000, proceeds going to the Greg Moore Foundation.
"I'm really happy that we got a good result here. I was saving fuel the whole race, yet Adrian (Fernandez) could go further...?
"But with four non-finishes, this is a monkey off our back. This is one of the toughest circuits we go to, so it's a great place to finish. It's a very big result."
