Three-race format for British F3

The British F3 and British GT championships will share the bill at 11 race meetings in 2003, according to the provisional schedule released by the BRDC. A three-race format will be used for British F3 and a race on the Rockingham oval is likely. British GTs will have a standard 75-minute format and a new 'Cup' class

The F3 series will adopt a new format. Each meeting will comprise separate Scholarship and Championship class races and a combined feature race. This was tried twice this season in catering for oversubscribed entry lists. The BRDC is to investigate the possibility of staging a race on the Rockingham oval circuit as the final round.

The qualifying format will also be revised, with a morning session to decide the grid for the single-class races and an afternoon session for the combined race.

The GT races will have a new standard length of 75 minutes, but the BRDC has reserved the right to adopt other formats. These could include two 40-minute races at the Castle Combe and Knockhill meetings, a two-hour race at Snetterton, a three-hour evening race, and a linkage with the Spa 1000.

The performance of GT and GTO cars will be equalised by means of pitstops. There will be a new, entry-level British GT Cup class for cars prepared below GTO specification, in which performance will be equalised by close technical control based on power/weight ratio.

There will be 12 F3 events and 11 GT, the latter omitting a September meeting at Donington Park. This meeting and one at Silverstone in May will be the only occasions on which the BRDC series will be on the same bill as the British Touring Car Championship.
