Three Aston LMP1s for the 'Ring

Aston Martin Racing will take three of its Gulf LMP1 prototypes to the final two rounds of the Le Mans Series in a bid to secure the constructors' title, 50 years after the marque won the World Sportscar Championship

Beginning with this weekend's ADAC 1000Km race at the Nurburgring, the team's #008 car will be driven by Aston Martin newcomer Chris Buncombe, Stuart Hall and Miguel Ramos, while the #009 machine will be entrusted to Darren Turner and Harald Primat.

The #007 line-up of Jan Charouz, Tomas Enge and Stefan Mucke remains the same.

The team will also take three cars to the AUTOSPORT 1000Km at Silverstone next month as Aston Martin aims to overhaul the four-point deficit it has to Pescarolo Sport in the teams' championship standings.

"Following on from Le Mans where we entered three cars it will be great to see all of our Aston Martins back on track at the Nurburgring where we will be trying to secure as many points as possible in our championship chase," said team principal, George Howard-Chappell. "We tested at the Nurburgring in June which should help us with the set-up however, it is clear from the Algarve race that we have serious opposition."

British driver Buncombe added: "It is great to be back in the Le Mans Series again. I previously competed in this championship in 2007 in an LMP2 car so to step up to LMP1 and with such a great car is a fantastic opportunity for me.

"It is certainly going to be a challenge, jumping straight into a new car with no testing, so the pre-race sessions are going to be really important."
