The inside line on the German GP

The German Grand Prix is a difficult race to call. Ferrari took pole and won at Silverstone, but BMW Williams and Michelin were both pleased with their competitiveness. While many experts are predicting that Williams will set the pace in Germany, both Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello seem very confident

The inside line on the German GP

Michael is 13-8 for the win and, while you have to have doubts, those odds are longer than often quoted for the five-time champ. Also, as a man sensitive to his environment, Barrichello comes to the scene of his first win on the back of a fine victory at Silverstone. Odds of 7-1 for another win look attractive, but either an each-way bet or a podium punt would make more sense.

Kimi Raikkonen is also 7-1 for the win, which has to be worth consideration.

Elsewhere, Mark Webber is quoted at Evens to score more points for Jaguar, while new team mate Justin Wilson is on offer at 3-1. Yes, it's Justin's first race in a strange car, at a strange circuit, with a strange team. But he will have two hours of acclimatisation on Friday morning and points go down to eighth place remember - it's far from impossible.

The tyre war has dictated many a race outcome this year, so look at the dual forecast bets with that in mind. Even though the odds on Michael for an outright win are relatively short, the odds on a Williams 1-2 (7-2) are shorter than the odds on a Ferrari 1-2 (9-2). If Michelin is superior, of course, it would also impact on McLaren, so you might look at a mixed Montoya/Raikkonen or Ralf/Raikkonen dual forecast. The odds on either (18-1) are very attractive.

What about an outside punt? Well, by the law of averages, a race will come together for David Coulthard sooner or later and at Hockenheim DC is on offer at 20-1. That could be worth an each-way bet at a fifth of the odds.
