Team St George may continue into 2003

Interest in the 'all-British' team formed to contest the CART FedEx race on September 13-14 at Rockingham, England, has been so positive that the Team St George project is almost certain to be repeated in 2003. "We've been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm," said Rockingham CEO David Grace. "We've had calls from seriously impressive sponsors. Some have said they can't put a deal together at this short notice, but they have a lot of enthusiasm for continuing this initiative into 2003."

The team has now acquired the former Sigma Autosport Lola-Cosworth which finished third in this year's CART race at Milwaukee. "We've got a car we know can run at the front at Rockingham," said Bob Berridge of Oval Racing Management, which is coordinating the project. "It's currently being prepared at Dale Coyne's workshop in Chicago, and it will be flown over to Ray Mallock's team to start a test programme at Rockingham at the end of August."

Team St George is set to unveil both the car and the identity of its driver next week.
