Team Australia Line-Up Announced
Former Formula One World Champion Alan Jones has defended hiring his son as one of the drivers for the Australian A1 Grand Prix team
Team boss Jones has hired his son Christian, along with Will Power and Will Davison to lead the team's effort inaugural 'World Cup of Motorsport'.
The series visits Australia for the fourth round of the series at Eastern Creek on November 6, and Jones unveiled the line-up at an Australian press briefing.
"I know I'm going to be charged with nepotism, favouritism or whatever other ism the Australians are going to throw at me," Jones Sr said, "but I can look them in the eye and say Christian did win the 2004 Asian Formula Three Championship, and he's the only Australian to have won an international championship last year. That alone, he deserves a go.
"I'm confident that we've got as good a driving talent in our team as anybody else, and I'm sure that when we get to Brands Hatch we'll be right up there. Will Power's going well overseas at the moment, and I've got a great deal of faith in Will Davison's ability. So I'm happy with the three that we've got."
All three drivers are likely to have an equal share of race duties during the 12-race calendar, the final version of which was unveiled this week.
Australian GT championship leader Peter Hackett, who tested for the team last week at Paul Ricard , did not make the squad's final line-up.
