Stewart parts with Ford

American car giant Ford has paid tribute to the valuable input of three-times world champion Jackie Stewart, as a 40-year long business relationship between the two draws to a close at the end of the year

Stewart parts with Ford

Stewart has been tipped to take a role with the Royal Bank of Scotland, which is expected to conclude a sponsorship deal with the Williams team, and with Ford deciding to withdraw from F1 there was little option but for the two to go their separate ways.

Stewart began working for Ford in 1964, when as a young driver he was handed a contract to promote the company's products in Britain. Since then he has added valuable input to products, improved relations with customers and helped lead the Ford-name to victory with Stewart Grand Prix.

Speaking about the ending of their relationship, Stewart said: "I'm 65 years old and it's the right time for me and Ford to start a new chapter with new challenges

"I'm busier now than ever, but serving a global player like Ford the way I have requires an intensive personal time commitment that is becoming more and more difficult to manage among my other commitments. We both believe this is a good time to stop rather than compromise."

Nick Sheele, the president of Ford Motor Company, said: "Jackie has always done business in the same way as he drives

"Whether he is behind the wheel or sitting in a seat in the boardroom, Jackie Stewart operates with smoothness, finesse and perception that make his accomplishments seem effortless. We at Ford Motor Company could never ask for more than what he has already given us. He leaves an incredible legacy and a lasting friendship, both of which we will cherish."
