SRWC Round 1- First blood to JB Giesse

Double SRWC champions JB Giesse took the first victory of the 2000 season

at Barcelona today, with the team's new drivers Christian Pescatori andDavid Terrien completing 90 laps in the two and a half hour race.

The JB Giesse Ferrari 333 SP crossed the line 19.9 seconds ahead of the GLV
Brums Ferrari, the two cars having battled throughout the race.

Emmanuel Collard, Champion driver for JB Giesse over the past two years,
started from second on the grid in the new DAMS Cadillac Northstar, and
leapt into the lead ahead of pole-sitter Lavaggi in the GLV car. Collard
managed to hold off the Ferraris through the first lap, but the Northstar's
moment in the lead was not to last long. Lavaggi regained the lead going
into the second lap while the Northstar dropped back, experiencing problems with severe understeer.

Pescatori, in the JB Giesse car, took the lead from Lavaggi on the fourth
lap, and began to pull away. Lavaggi closed on the former BMS driver
during the second stint, regaining the lead while Pescatori was caught
behind the slower Collard.

When Lavaggi and Pescatori handed over to their respective co-drivers,
Filliberti and Terrien, the GLV Brum's longer pit-stop gave JB Giesse the
lead. Lapping consistently faster than Filliberti, Terrien pulled out a
gap and took the win.

Mauro Baldi and Gary Formato were third in the R&M Riley and Scott Mk3,
followed by the two BMS Scuderia Italia Ferraris. The Northstars finished
in seventh and eighth places.

Martin Henderson and Heinrich Langfermann won the SR2 Lights category in
their EBRT Schroeder Pilbeam Nissan, with Pierre Bruneau and Marc Rostan
second in the Debora. Only 4 cars finished in the category.

The next round of the SRWC is at Monza on the 16th April
