Soucek dominates first qualifying

Andy Soucek continued his strong form in the Formula 2 championship by clinching the first pole position for Sunday's round at Oschersleben

The Spaniard, who goes into the weekend in Germany 22 points clear of his nearest title rival, sat atop the timesheet for the majority of the session and lowered his best time to one nearly four tenths of a second quicker than his closest rival.

Mirko Bortolotti will join Soucek on the front row for the first race, having a set a time just 0.005s faster than fellow Red Bull Junior Robert Wickens.

Wickens and Julien Jousse, who lie second and third to Soucek in the championship, will share the second row of the grid, with Milos Pavlovic and Kazim Vasiliauskas on the third.

Tobias Hegewald and Carlos Iaconelli were the only other drivers to get within a second of Soucek's benchmark time, ahead of Alex Brundle and Mikhail Aleshin who completed the top 10.

The session was broken up by a brief red flag period with eight minutes remaining when Jason Moore had a spin. He eventually qualified 20th, two places ahead of series newcomer Ollie Hancock.
