Servia to Replace Junqueira
Oriol Servia will replace injured Bruno Junqueira in this weekend's Milwaukee 225 Champ Car race, the Newman/Haas team said today
Junqueira was injured at last weekend's Indianapolis 500 when he collided with AJ Foyt IV. The Brazilian suffered spinal injuries which required surgery, and his doctors have ruled him out of racing for the next six months.
Newman/Haas said in a statement they had picked Servia for his extensive experience in Champ Car - the Spaniard has 87 race starts over the past five years. He has been driving for Dale Coyne Racing since last year.
"We have watched Oriol race over the years in the Champ Car series and believe we can put together a competitive effort with him this weekend despite the limited time to prepare," said team co-owner Carl Haas. "Oriol was running in second place in Mexico and we believe he is a good fit for our program in Milwaukee."
30 year old Servia said: "It is a great opportunity for me to be able to step into the PacifiCare car that is leading the Championship.
"I'm grateful that Newman/Haas Racing thought of me. Bruno is my friend and I felt really bad for him when the accident happened but I know he will get well soon and we can cycle together again."
Dale Coyne Racing have not yet stated who would replace Servia at the upcoming race.
