Sarrazin sets practice pace at Monza
Stephane Sarrazin set the pace in first practice for the Monza 1000kms as the second round of the Le Mans Series got under way in Italy on Friday
The French former Formula One and WRC driver led a Peugeot one-two ahead of teammate Marc Gene, who along with co-driver Nicolas Minassian took victory in Barcelona three weeks ago.
The two diesel-powered Peugeot Hdi-FAPs did not enjoy the same sort of performance advantage at Monza as they did at the Circuit de Catalunya, with Sarrazin's best time of 1:34.862, only 0.204 seconds faster than Rinaldo Capello's Audi R10.
The Italian, who shares the No.3 car with Allan McNish, was third quickest ahead of teammate Mike Rockenfeller.
Fifth quickest in LMP1 and overall was the Charouz Systems Lola-Aston Martin Coupe that showed so well in Barcelona, while the ORECA Courage of Olivier Panis and Nicolas Lapierre was sixth quickest.
The Van Merksteijn Motorsport Porsches RS Spyder headed LMP2, with team owner Peter van Merksteijn setting the pace ahead of the similar examples of Essex Racing and Team Horag.
Tomas Enge lead the way in GT1 for Team Modena, his Aston Martin more than two seconds faster than Roman Rusinov's Lamborghini Murcielago.
Alex Davison was fastest in GT2 for Felbermayr in one of the team's two Porsche 997 GT3 RSR.
