Road America race canned for 2003

Road America, one of the United States' most revered road circuits, has lost its round of the Champ Car World Series after a row between the race's promoter and sanctioning body CART could not be resolved. Champ Car called the removal of the race from its calendar "regrettable"

In February, CART Inc filed a law suit against Road America for failure to pay the final installment of its sanctioning fee for last year's event, as well as the first payment for the 2003 race at the venue that is also known as Elkhart Lake.

Champ Car also states that the race organisers rejected a reduced and revised financial arrangement that was offered by the CART management team as a settlement to the lawsuit. Its recourse has been to cancel the event scheduled for August 1/3 of this year.

Champ Cars have raced at the 4.048-mile track since 1982, but series bosses haven't ruled out a future return to the picturesque tree-lined circuit, providing a suitable business arrangement can be reached.

Road America officials have not yet responded to Champ Car's statement.
