Champ Car rookie of the year contender Andrew Ranger is likely to play a part in Canada's A1 Grand Prix team this season, Autosport-Atlas can exclusively reveal

Ranger Linked with Team Canada

Ranger, who has still to turn 19, has impressed team chiefs with his Champ Car campaign this season, where he came close to winning his second race at Monterrey, Mexico.

Team Canada officials have spoken with Ranger's representatives, who is understood to be positive about the idea.

The Canadian team impressed in the first two A1 Grand Prix races this season, considering their late coming together.

Formula Renault UK front-runner Sean McIntosh finished third in the feature race at the EuroSpeedway last weekend, and Canada are in eighth in the points standings.

A spokesperson for Canadian franchise holder Wade Cherwayko told Autosport-Atlas: "Wade has noticed Andrew's potential this season and is looking at getting him involved this season with Sean. Sean is making steady progress in the team and has impressed us. It is good to keep the series about young talent."

The Canadian team had contacted 2003 Champ Car title winner Paul Tracy, however are now unlikely to reach a deal with the 36 year-old.

Ranger is the latest American-based racer to be linked with the series. Former IRL champion Tony Kanaan will drive selected races with Team Brazil and newly crowned champion Dan Wheldon is set for guest drives in the British car.

Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon is close to agreeing a deal to race for New Zealand.
