Qualifying: Session cancelled due to rain

A series of rain showers and a tornado watch issued for the vicinity of the Milwaukee Mile circuit forced the cancellation of what would have been the first ever night-time qualifying session in Champ Car history on Friday

The wash-out means that Alex Tagliani will start from pole position, because he set the fastest lap in official practice for the event. The Canadian, who gives Rocketsports Racing its first pole in Champ Cars, outpaced Thursday pace-setter Michel Jourdain Jr by 0.158s. Because practice times were used, Tagliani will not earn a point for his pole.

"The winds were fluctuating a lot out there and I think we may have been lucky to catch a lap with no wind," said Tagliani. "But we made a good run and it was very important to us to do well here because it is one of the major headquarters for [sponsor] Johnson Controls and the team was really excited to do well for them here in Milwaukee."

Champ Car points leader Paul Tracy will start third, alongside Forsythe Racing team-mate Patrick Carpentier. Adrian Fernandez lines up fifth, ahead of Jimmy Vasser and Oriol Servia.

Bruno Junqueira, tied with Tracy for the series lead, will start from eighth, while team-mate Sebastien Bourdais, winner of the last two races, will start in 13th position.
