Piquet Jr. to Test for Team Brazil
Nelson Piquet Jr. will take part in the first group test for the A1 GP Team Brazil on Wednesday and Thuraday at Silverstone, the Brazilian announced today
Piquet will join compatriots Danilo Dirani, who is currently seventh in the British Formula Three series, and Joao Paulo Oliveira, who is leading the Japanese F3 series, at the test.
When asked about the test, Piquet stated: "I'm looking forward to testing the car. I don't really know what to expect - as it is the first time the cars will be tested, the objectives are really to get to know the car and learn more about what the category is all about.
"I'm sure both days are going to be very productive for everybody involved - the drivers, the teams and the organisers."
The announcement was surprising, as Piquet was expected to concentrate in the off-season on testing for a second season in the GP2 series rather than look at a drive in the A1 GP series.
However, when asked in Hungary if he plans to return to GP2 next year, Piquet told Autosport-Atlas: "It depends; probably, I hope, but you never know - things can change, suddenly and quickly."
At the conclusion of the test, Piquet Jr. will fly to Rotterdam, where he will drive his father's 1989 Formula One car, the Lotus Judd 101, through the city streets as part of a celebration in honour of the Dutch city being nominated to become the 2005 European Capital of Sport.
