Philippe signs for Conquest

Frenchman Nelson Philippe, who is the youngest driver in Champ Car history, has re-signed with Mi-Jack Conquest Racing for 2005, having joined the team halfway through the 2004 campaign

Philippe managed a best finish of ninth place during his 11 starts last season and believes he can go better this year thanks to the experience he has gained.

"I really enjoyed the technical development side within the team [last year], and I know that MJCR has been working hard during the off-season to allow us to be in a competitive position this year," said Philippe. "I learned a lot last season, and I am looking forward to getting back to racing again."

Team co-owner Mika Lanigan added: "Nelson is an impressive young man, and it's absolutely remarkable how much progress he has made in a short time in Champ Car. He's an exciting character on and off the track, and we are proud to have him represent us again this season."

The team has yet to confirm who Philippe's team-mate will be, but a host of names have been linked with the seat. These include Brazilians Alex and Ricardo Sperafico, Frenchman Bruce Jouanny and New Zealander Matt Halliday.
