Pescarolo tops first Silverstone session

Pescarolo drivers Jean-Christophe Boullion and Christophe Tinseau gave their Le Mans Series title chances at this weekend's AUTOSPORT 1000km at Silverstone the best possible start by setting the quickest lap as the cars took to the track for the first time this afternoon

Boullion and Tinseau lie seven points behind Aston Martin drivers Stefan Mucke, Tomas Enge and Jan Charouz with just 10 available at this weekend's season finale.

It was Boullion that set the best lap of the hour-long practice, more than two tenths of a second faster than Darren Turner in the #008 Aston Martin, which he shares with Harold Primat.

Olivier Panis set the third quickest time of practice in the sole present Oreca, the #10 car he shares with Nicolas Lapierre.

Danny Watts was fourth in the Strakka Racing Ginetta-Zytek, with Marcel Fassler (Speedy Racing Lola-Aston Martin) fifth.

The championship-leading #007 Aston Martin was only sixth quickest in the session, with Enge setting the car's best time.

*The Aston Martin Racing drivers will be signing autographs at the AUTOSPORT stand - which features a Lola T70 on display - at the entrance to the paddock on Saturday at 1130. David Brabham and Marino Franchitti will also be paying a visit to meet the crowds at 1430 on Saturday.

AUTOSPORT.com competition winner Martin Evans will be the starter for the AUTOSPORT 1000km when it gets underway on Sunday morning.
