Pescarolo quickest in second practice

The new 2009-spec Pescarolo LMP1 showed its potential in second free practice for Sunday's Le Mans Series opener at Barcelona

Christophe Tinseau was fastest for much of the session before Pescarolo team-mate Jean-Christophe Boullion came out on top as the times tumbled at the end of the 90-minute practice period.

Boullion's 1m33.520s best aboard the lead Pescarolo-Judd 01 eclipsed second fastest time set by Speedy Sebah Lola-Aston driver Andrea Belicchi by six tenths of a second.

Boullion explained that the rebodied Pescarolo, which had only completed a brief shakedown on an airfield prior to arriving in Barcelona, is a more driveable racing car than last year's version.

"It is better on turn-in and on the brakes," he said.

Olivier Panis was a further eight tenths behind in the first Courage-ORECA, while Stefan Mucke, who had been fastest in Friday's first practice session, was another tenth back in fourth place.

Speedy Sebah's LMP2 Lola, driven by Jonny Kane, Xavier Pompidou and Benjamin Leuenberger, came out top in the secondary prototype division.

The Reiter-run IPB Spartak Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT was fastest in GT1 in the hands of Peter Kox, and Marc Lieb set the best time in GT2 aboard the factory-supported Felbermayr Proton Porsche 911 GT3-RSR.
