For some reason, Schumacher does not dominate at A1-Ring in the manner he does at most other venues. Bearing that in mind, it's worth having a close look at the pole position odds on Barrichello. Whereas Michael is quoted at 8-11, you can have 10-3 on Rubens, which is worth a punt.

Engine power counts for a lot in Austria so, although Ferrari's new F2003-GA must be favourite to claim the front row, it's also worth considering Williams-BMW. Ralf Schumacher started alongside Rubens on the front row last year, so the German at 12-1 for the pole and team mate Juan Pablo Montoya at 16-1 are worth of considering.

To win the race, Michael Schumacher is 8-13 and Barrichello is 4-1. I'd feel less confident putting money on the Brazilian here because, although team orders are banned now, don't suppose for a moment that they can't still be applied...

Renault's superb performance in Spain will have brought the Regie firmly into your betting psyche and you might look hard at 4-1 for Fernando Alonso to finish on the podium, and Jarno Trulli at 6-1. Barcelona though, was all about tyre degradation and a decent chassis, whereas power is a much bigger issue in Austria, an area where Renault is lacking. Although they planned an engine step in time for this weekend, I'd still hold fire on Renault here and look at McLaren and Williams for the minor places.

Kimi Raikkonen is 5-4 for the podium, David Coulthard 15-8, Ralf Schumacher 3-1 and Juan Pablo Montoya, third last year to the Ferraris, is 10-3. Elsewhere, Olivier Panis must score points for Toyota soon and is 13-8 to open his account at A1-Ring.

Looking at the special forecast bets for first and second place finishers (in any order) tells you just how much the bookies are anticipating a Ferrari walkover - Schumacher and Barrichello are 6-5! But the first two corners can be interesting here and let's just suppose that Michael didn't finish. Barrichello and Raikkonen are available at 16-1, with Barrichello/Coulthard on offer at 18-1. Or, if you fancy Williams more than McLaren, there's Barrichello/Montoya or Barrichello/Ralf, each backable at 28-1.
