Ntl Rally: Wilks
Junior WRC star Guy Wilks was awarded the National Rally Driver of the Year at the Autosport awards in London on Sunday
Autosport Awards
The Autosport Awards are a series of awards presented by motor racing magazine Autosport to drivers that have achieved significant milestones each season. Some of the presentations are selected by the general public via a reader's poll.
Wilks was a frontrunner in the junior championship throughout the season finishing third behind Per-Gunnar Andersson and Nicolas Bernardi in the overall standings.
The Briton was delighted with his award, fending off the four other nominees for the gong: Niall McShea, Alister McRae, Kris Meeke and Matt Wilson.
"It's been a fantastic season," he said. "There have been highs and lows, we never seemed to be consistent and that's what we hope to achieve next year. We'll be back next season to try and win."
"You have to analyse went wrong to move on, but we made the wrong tyre choice, but we don't have the gravel crews that the WRC teams have so we have to look at the weather and make a choice, but we made the wrong choice several times."
Wilks is unsure of his plans next year, but the Briton says he would love to line up in a WRC car and admitted that it may be a possibility.
"I'd like to be in a WRC car and the sooner the better," he said, "but you have to prove you're capable. It might be possible that I do a full championship in one but we'll have to wait and see."
