New SF19 Super Formula car images revealed ahead of Suzuka finale

The organisers of the Super Formula championship have released official images of the new SF19 car, which will be introduced for the 2019 season

The aggressive-looking Dallara-built car will replace the SF14 model, which has been used by the Japanese single seater series for the last four years.

The SF19 takes several cues from the new generation of Formula 1 machinery, with a lower and swept back rear wing the most prominent change.

Fins have been included on the SF19's sidepods in a bid to make the car look more spectacular.

To address issues regarding a lack of overtaking in Super Formula races, the new car will rely more on underfloor aerodynamic pars to generate downforce, rather than wings.

While the SF19 doesn't feature a halo in line with cars set to be used in F1 and Formula 2 in 2018, several advancements have been made in terms of safety devices, including a more robust cockpit design.

The car will use a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and an IndyCar-style overtake button.

Testing for the SF19 will begin in July next year, with teams expected to take deliveries of the new machines in January 2019.

The 2018 Super Formula season concludes with a double-header round at Suzuka this weekend, with Pierre Gasly - who recently made his F1 debut for the Toro Rosso team - just 0.5 points behind standings leader Hiroaki Ishiura heading into the final two races.
