New linear position sensor

Penny + Giles Controls has launched a competitively priced linear position sensor suitable for the motorsport market. Designed to monitor throttle and suspension position in a variety of racing vehicles, the MLS130 is available in eight stroke lengths, from 25 to 200mm, and sealed to IP66 for use in harsh environments.

It has three mounting options: M5 metal rod-end bearings at both ends; quick-release ball-joint fittings; and threaded stud-ends to give the customer total control on mounting. The quick-release ball-joint option allows easy installation (and removal) from the vehicle.

The sensor incorporates a one metre length of the popular DR25 sheathed three-core cable which is integrally moulded into the sensor to provide maximum strain relief and sealing, eliminating the need to use costly and time-consuming 'heat-shrink' over-sleeving.

It is highly reliable and has been tested to prove its ability to withstand the high vibration and shock often associated with high performance motor racing. A popular protective sleeve accessory is available, allowing the sensor to endure multiple race use in all weather conditions.

Using proven hybrid track technology, the sensor benefits from virtually infinite resolution, and a long sensor element operational life up to 100 million operations. It provides a highly reliable solution for absolute position sensing problems and reduces the need for regular maintenance and re-calibration of the control system, with no loss of position information in the event of system power loss.
