MSA urges FIA rethink on EU events

MSA, the British body, is among the ASNs lobbying for a review of proposed changes to the FIA International Sporting Code, to take effect from January 1, 2003. The effect of European Union law is that many National status motorsport events can be entered by both amateur and professional competitors from 18 countries, without being listed on the FIA International Calendar. The FIA intends to limit such entries to professionals. Click on the link for the MSA's comments on the matter

Under the present FIA proposals, an event organiser wishing to invite amateur competitors from outside its country would need to upgrade its event to International status next season, to apply and pay for a listing on the FIA International Calendar, and to limit entries to competitors holding International licences. The event would also have to comply with any relevant sections of the International Sporting Code.

Furthermore, a British amateur competitor wishing to compete on any event outside the jurisdiction of the MSA would need an FIA International licence.
